I Bought Some Chairs

Well, I officially feel like an adult.  Today Ty and I bought 2 arm chairs from Urban Barn.  At a pretty penny too, I might add.  I think that's what makes me so nervous.  Well that and the fact that the chairs are custom purchases (read: final sale) and I've never actually seen what the chair will look like in the fabric I chose until they get to my house! EEK!  So I'm a little anxious about my choice.  I have a hard time trusting myself, especially with something this big.

Here's what the chair looks like.  It's hard to tell what the design is really like when it's grey, but....hey it's all I've got for the next 4-6 weeks.  The pattern I've chosen is called Caprice Marine and it looks like this....

Please ignore the chair design.  I'm sure this chair is comfy, but it's just not for me!  I will be sure to post pics once I've got them and set them up in my living room.  It's seen a lot of changes in the past four years....don't remember?  Here let me jog your memory.

Well now that leather couch has seen it's last bum, we've added a rug and a bigger coffee table, a book case....it's a growing room.  I promise I will show-off my soon to be completed living room!

Finishing Touches

Well almost a year after we finished painting our master bedroom I finally found the curtains I wanted!  And thankfully they were at the always budget friendly Target AND they were purple! Woo hoo!  I couldn't believe my luck. 

 So just to remind you here's what our bedroom looked like before the project

Ok, then we painted!

And then we got new lamps, curtains and one last pillow (which is the bane of Tyler's existence.  He says he feels like he's unloading a hay truck every night when we go to bed! Ugh - boys!)

PS My bedroom is never this clean.  My dance bag is always open and spewing forth dirty, sweaty clothes, stinky dance shoes, papers, notebooks.  Not to mention my underwear and socks marking a trail from my side of the bed to the bathroom!  

Now I need to hang some pictures above our bed and put up our wall talk and our room will be complete!

Three out of Four

What a looooong weekend! You know those projects you think you can crank out in 2 days tops and then it ends up taking longer? Oh yeah that was my weekend :) this was the weekend I decided to rid myself of the third blue room in our house. Yes my house has 4 blue rooms, all different shades. I already painted over my teal living room and sky blue kitchen. Last weekend my lightest of light baby blue bedroom was on the chopping block!

Here's what I started with....

Who in their right mind would want to live in this blue? Probably a lot of people but not me. Time to go! So last Thursday night I did some initial mudding of holes, nail pops, etc. I had planned to get so much done on Friday, except I ended up working a full day and by the time I got home I was pooped. So Saturday, after a late start thanks to my lazy fiancé, we got to priming....The edging was horrendous! As you can see we have 2 door frames, 2 double closets, and 3 windows and sills which require finicky brush work!

Look at my man working....I definitely needed his help. 

I'm usually the go-getter, handy-man in my house, but this was for sure a two man job!

So tired.....so unimpressed, but we're finally done priming!

So Saturday we finished priming, and didn't have enough time to get the first coat of actual paint on.  How depressing? 

But Sunday, boy howdy, did we get painting!!

So we started working on the trim .....

It was very exciting to see my vision come to life!  The colour was/is perfect...but I kid you not-the trim took us 5 HOURS!!! yes you heard right, 5 hours.  A friend asked me "What were you using, toothbrushes?"  It felt like it!  But it felt sooooo good to roll that paint on-it's always accompanied with a small panic attack because I don't trust my own instincts....

Ty kept likening the colour to chocolate milk (which is what it totally looks like) I asked him "Is that a good thing?"

He was like "Yup 'cuz after I'm done painting I get to eat the walls". Har har har!

First coat done! Success!

Luckily Sunday we got our butts in gear a little quicker and had time to let the paint dry for 4 hours and then gear up for the second coat.  Which was the easiest part of the whole ordeal, except our rollers kept leaving fuzz everywhere, so that was a little frustrating.

Ready to see my bedroom, all done, and (gasp) with the bed made and no clothes on the floor?!?!? Get ready!

No curtains or any other accoutrement.... I have some photos to hang above the bed as well as the Wall Talk Ty got for me a few Christmas's ago.  Can't wait to put it up!!

Dreaming big....measuring how big is too big for a flat screen TV

We decided a 32" is plenty big enough!

And if you noticed, we put our room back together at 10pm on Sunday night.  Which thankfully left us Monday of the long weekend to be total and utter coach potatoes.  We really love the change and hope you do too!  I hope it inspires you to pull up your socks and revamp your living space!

BIG REVEAL Part 2

First off I have to wish all my Canadian readers a very Happy Thanksgiving.  For anyone who is wondering what we Canadians are thankful for, we celebrate the harvest, as opposed to Americans who celebrate the pilgrims landing in America.  Saskatchewan (my home province, it's right in the middle.  It's a rectangle and is almost perfectly flat) is known as the 'Bread basket of the world'.  Agriculture is a dominant industry in Saskatchewan.  Anywho...

Thank you to everyone who gave me some love about my lovely new living room.  There is still some work to be done, but I will get to that later.  NOW, for what you've all been waiting for..... THE BIG REVEAL  part deux!


Well if you hadn't guessed, it is another home reno project.  And yes it does involve getting rid of another one of my blue rooms....you won't believe this transformation!

Here's what I started with

Yup more blue....even lighter than the living room.  At least the living room had some depth to it, this is barely blue.  I had conversations AT LENGTH with my Mum (who had seen the house in it original state) about how the brown cabinets, grey floor and white appliances and counter tops looked stoopid all together.  There was no cohesiveness, and the paint was NOT helping!  So I hummed and hawed and thought about my dream kitchen (which includes stainless steel appliances....*sigh* someday)  My idea scared some people when I asked them for advice...

Here's what I used

This was a solo project.  Meaning I did EVERYTHING, start to finish, by myself.  I did have a little bit of help from Ty, but not really enough to give much credit :)  He was supportive, and really that's all a gal needs!

Woo hoo! Priming-done.  Edging-almost done.....

I HIGHLY recommend investing in a mini roller-ESPECIALLY for kitchens! 

There are so many little spaces to get in to!  It's so cute too!

I didn't want to paint the room in sections,

 but the kitchen couldn't be out of commission the WHOLE weekend!

Again I stopped short of the cooking area so I could still use my kitchen.

If you paint your ceiling (which I did repeatedly) a quick easy fix is to grab your edging brush and primer and spot treat your ceiling mark with primer.  Yes it is probably whiter than your ceiling, BUT it's better than a big daub of green on the ceiling! 

And really, no one is looking at the ceiling!

THE FINISHED PRODUCT

What do you think?  I LOVE it.  And yes, I know, a green kitchen IS NOT for everyone.  But as you can see my fruit bowl is green (on the island) and I have green bowls and green coffee mugs that accent my white dishes so everything ties together nicely I think.  I think my green kitchen is far superior to the blue kitchen.  "Better than the blue" has become my motto during these 'renos'. 

 I hope you have enjoyed the first 2 of many home update projects.  I also hope it inspires you to update your home.  Through this process I have learnt that you shouldn't be afraid of colour in your home-go with your gut, because you know what you like.  You can also paint a whole room in a weekend-it's not as time consuming as you think.  Map out your time and use it efficiently.  I also learnt that two are faster than one, so if you have a handy friend, see if you can exchange their painting skills for beer and pizza.  I know that would have made my kitchen come together A LOT faster!  But I am super proud that I made my kitchen one step closer to being my dream kitchen....now for those stainless steel appliances!
